The
Directorate General for Development Cooperation of the Italian
Ministry of Foreign Affairs sponsors a “Fellowship
Programme”, implemented by the United Nations,
and open to young university graduates under the age of 28.
The
objective of the Programme is twofold. In the long term, the goal
is to enhance the effectiveness of development aid in selected
developing countries. In the short term, the purpose is to provide
on-the-job training to young professionals in development co-operation
activities and, at the same time, to train their local counterparts
in the procedures related to the preparation, submission and implementation
of development co-operation projects and programmes.
The
Fellows will attend a three-week training at the International
Training Centre of the ILO in Turin and at the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs in Rome, on international development cooperation and,
in particular, on the design and management of programmes and
projects in developing countries.
Following
the training, the Fellows will be assigned to their duty stations
in developing countries for a period of 11 months to acquire field
experience on development cooperation issues and to share their
skills and know-how with local counterparts.
The
selected candidates are expected to start their fellowship in
July 2003.
Fellows
will receive a stipend, in local currency, determined by the United
Nations according to the cost of living in the country of destination. |
